Ever walk into a meeting or a get-together and feel the energy in the social environment go awry? Can you actually catch someone's anxiety? According to research, yes we can catch anxiety from others. Anxiety can be contagious like the common cold or the flu. Carla Marie Manly PhD, a clinical psychologist in Santa Rosa, California, explains how the human brain is wired with mirror neurons and states, "It’s all too easy for us to 'catch' emotions."

Unfortunately, those with the most empathy are the most susceptible to catching the negative emotions of others. Negative energy transfers to others like a cold or the flu. So what are we to do if we catch someone's anxiety. First, we must identify what we are feeling. Then we identify the source. What happens from here is the most important because remember - energy cannot be destroyed.

It seems most people end up continuing to transfer that energy to others, because they don't know what to do with it. So after identifying what we're feeling and then understanding that it did not originate from us (we just ended up catching it), we need to decide what to do with this energy we caught.
